Unicorns & Pencils: A Story of Protection, Creativity, and Education
When I started Unicorns and Pencils, I wanted a name that truly represented my heart, my mission, and my passion for education. A name that spoke to both the students I serve and the creative process that fuels my work. And so, Unicorns and Pencils was born. But what does it mean? Let’s dive in.
Unicorns: The Protectors of Children
Unicorns have long been symbols of magic, purity, and protection. In mythology, they were known to guard the innocent, shielding them from harm and guiding them toward a brighter future. This speaks deeply to my work in special education. Every child—especially those who struggle—deserves a champion. Someone who stands beside them, believing in their potential, helping them navigate a world that often feels overwhelming. Unicorns represent that protector, that encourager, that advocate who never gives up.
For me, unicorns symbolize the unwavering belief that every child, regardless of their challenges, has incredible strengths. They deserve to be celebrated, uplifted, and given the tools to succeed in their own unique way. Just like unicorns in legend, I want to be that guide and protector for my students, helping them find their path and embrace their potential.
Pencils: The Power of Learning & Creativity
A pencil is a simple tool, yet it holds so much power. It can be used to write, to create, to problem-solve, and to express thoughts that may otherwise go unspoken. For a student who struggles, a pencil can be both a bridge to understanding and a means of self-expression.
Pencils remind me of the importance of learning, trial and error, and the beauty of making mistakes. After all, every pencil has an eraser for a reason. Learning is a process—it’s messy, it’s imperfect, and it’s full of opportunities to grow. Just as I teach my students to keep trying, to keep learning, and to embrace the journey, the pencil represents that resilience and creativity.
